World Autism Awareness Day occurs annually on April 2. Founded in 1989, World Autism Awareness Day (WAAD) received recognition by the United Nations General Assembly on December 18, 2007.
The United Nations General Assembly resolution established April 2 as WAAD, participation by all UN organizations and member states, and an awareness of autism in society.
National Autism Awareness Month occurs during the entire month of April to educate about Autism and issues within the Autism community.
With one out of every 88 children on the Autism Spectrum, Autism Awareness Month plays a role in ensuring that Autism Spectrum Disorders are represented.
